Rigatoni in the Crock Pot

I love me some pasta. Any pasta, any sauce, any time. Well, as long as it doesn't have this or these or this. Blech. But, keep the seafood out of my pasta and I am a happy camper.

I found this recipe in this book (my new best friend.)

You need:

Brown 1-2 lbs. of ground beef. (I used 1 lb.)

I also had 1/2 lb. of leftover sausage that I fried up.

Boil 12 ounces of rigatoni according to the package (about 12-15 minutes.)

Layer the ingredients in your Crock Pot in this order. 1/2 jar of spaghetti sauce.

1/2 of the cooked rigatoni.

1/2 of the hamburger/sausage mixture.

1 1/2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese.

I use Italian Seasoning in just about everything and this was no exception! I sprinkled some onto the cheese on both layers.

1/2 of a can of sliced mushrooms and 1/2 of a small chopped onion.

Repeat each layer. I was feeling rebellious so I added another 1/2 cup of cheese to the very top along with another sprinkle of Italian seasoning.

Cook 4-5 hours on low in your Crock Pot. (This is 5 hours later.)

The verdict:

LOVE IT! This is the best "new" dish I have made. I will make 2 changes the next time I make it.

1. I will add AT LEAST another 1/2 of a jar of spaghetti sauce. It was a little dry.

2. I will probably add a little ricotta cheese to the layers to make it a bit creamier.

This recipe makes A TON so we will be having leftovers tomorrow. Hubby is happily eating his second plate full. Kids will try it out tomorrow. All in all, I highly recommend it. It was easy, delicious, and very filling.

Were the noodles not too mushy? I'd think cooked noodles, then on low for another 4 hours would make pure mush. Obviously I need to use my crock pot more!
Oh, and wine in this--yum! LOL

I don't know why this reminded me - but have you tried pizza fondue? not necessarily a crock pot recipe - but probably just as easy. A can of sauce, a lb of chop meat is option and lots of mozzarella cheese and a loaf of italian bread. Cook meat if using. Then add in the sauce. Finally add in enough cheese to make it thick - usually 1-2 bags of shredded cheese. Cube up the italian bread. And you are done. My mom used to just put the pot on the table and give us each a fork and a ton of bread. so yummy..

Deb-Not mushy at all. The opposite actually because there was virtually no liquid they toughened up a bit. A little more spaghetti sauce would make it perfect. And yes wine in it, with it,near it...perfect.
Christine-Sounds awesome. I will try it!
Mom and Mrs. Parks-Thanks! I am lovin using the Crock Pot. Enjoy the recipes now while you can. Reality will set in come August
14. Then no more cooking at the John Deere house.

Looks yummy. Very. I still have not managed to drag the crock pot out of the closet. When the kids get back! And, I have to know...what recipe book are you using? And...somehow I missed it...but what was the verdict on the meatloaf?

Kat-I put the link for the cookbook in the post. It is Fix-it and Forget-It from Debbie. It's great! No pics, but I like the way it is organized.
Also, I updated the meatloaf post. It was okay, but needed a few changes before it turned out the way I want.
