Busy on the Farm

This was a busy weekend on the farm. Yesterday we finally got all the crops in. And yes, that was November 15. After a long, wet, cool summer and fall...we just managed to get them in before Thanksgiving. That's as late as I can remember, although my husband remembers harvesting frozen corn in 1995.

There was plenty of equipment out ready to work!

After finishing soybeans last week, we just had corn left. This required the combine, 2 grain trucks, and a tractor with grain cart. Everyone was busy harvesting corn!

While that was going on, we were also mowing down what was left of the corn stalks, raking them, and then baling them into fodder bales.

There were also cows to feed.

And what comes after feeding time? The spreading of manure, of course.

Even though it was a busy weekend, there was still plenty of time for goofing around in the corn.

And that sunset? Was the perfect ending to a perfectly busy weekend.

  3. I love how you say WE, as though you're out there working or something.
And you probably don't remember those 95 crops since you were STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL! LOL
    Great pics!

  5. My son would have a fit if he saw these pictures. He is a tractor FREAK! All I hear about are combines, haulers and buckets on tractors. LOL

  6. Oh Yeah, what is up with that "WE got all the crops in, WE were mowing down what was left of corn stalks"
Thanks to Finding Normal for mentioning the "WE" I was gonna let it slide.

  7. It always feels great to be done with harvest! I feel 1,000 lbs lift off my shoulders when they move home and start clean up!

  8. I think it is so cool that you live on a working farm! What are fodder bales?

  9. Thanks for sharing. I wondered what you farmed. We have 23 acres of Avocado's and 17 acres of flowers that we grow. It is a lot simplier than what you do.

  11. ah...those big trucks. Those are what I learned to drive on and now I shift like a stinkin' pro! =)

Good times....although our harvest is much much earlier than yours, generally the last of everything is in around the middle of Sept on a late year, usually earlier. Most of the harvest here (grass seed) is done in July.

  13. What a cool post! I went to "farm camp" (did you know they have those?) as a kid, but that's about as close as I've gotten to a grain silo!

I'm in awe you manage to teach and work on the farm... you're wonder woman!
