Beautiful Fall Day

We took advantage of a beautiful fall day to rake, jump, ride, and play in the leaves.

I just love fall!

My Boy

My baby boy is six today. It's hard to believe I've been someone's mom for six years, and yet I don't remember my life before he was born.

From the time he could crawl, his obsession has been tractors.

He has always been so caring and helpful, kind and polite.

And so stinking handsome.

He is my big strong helper, never afraid to get dirty. Loves to get dirty. Is always dirty.

He is all boy, through and through.

Happy Birthday, my sweet boy. I love you more than you know.

Why playing in corn is more fun than playing in snow

1. You don't get wet.

2. It's much tastier.

3. It's not near as cold.

4. You can make corn angels.

5. You can throw corn without having to take the time to shape it into a ball.

6. You can bury your sister without getting in trouble.

7. It's much more fun to shovel.

8. You get to take corn home with you in all sorts of surprising places.

I Love Me Some Fall Break

I don't think I mentioned that I have been on Fall Break the past two days. Two glorious days off from school.

I spent the day Thursday with the kids, Grandma, and Aunt Susie. We went to a children's science museum, had way too much delicious food at lunch, and then I left the kids there! Well, not at the restaurant...but with Aunt Susie. They spent the night with her while the husband and I enjoyed a nice dinner out, some shopping, and a quiet evening at home.

I picked the kids up Friday morning. We found Cole some new boots, made a Target run, and had lunch. We spent the rest of the day painting, playing with Play-Doh, and cleaning out closets.

It's rather hard to believe that Fall Break is technically over and the weekend is here. *sigh* How do two days at school drag by so slowly, but two days off fly by?

Book Dork

I saw an ad for the Kindle today. You know that little gadget that allows you to "eread" books? Well, I have a problem with it. While I do love me some technology, there is something I love even a little bit more.

Books.

There is something so personal about a book. The cover, the pages, the feel of it. I love books...even when they are only "new to me." And on those rare occasions when I do get a truly new book from the bookstore? I stroke and caress it. I stare at it lovingly before I turn the first page. I have even been known to hug a new book tightly to my chest, giddy with the anticipation of reading it.

Do I sound like a book pervert? I swear I am not.

Give me a new folder, binder, notebook...I am the same way. The newness...the possibilities. Is it any surprise I am a teacher?

But the Kindle? A flat, dull screen? Small and impersonal? No new-book smell? It just can't be as rewarding as reading a book.

When I finish an especially good book, there is nothing better than closing the book with a satisfying thud...simply holding it in my arms while I reflect on what I've read. You just can't get that same feeling by pushing an off button and staring at a blank screen.

So given the choice of a book or a Kindle?

I'll choose book every time.
