Sweet Smell of Summer

I wish you could smell this.

Oops. Not that. This.

The sweet smell of corn pollinating

is one of my favorite smells of summer.

It ranks right up there with freshly cut grass, peonies, steak on the grill, and sunscreen.

If you see corn starting to tassel, hop out of the car and take a whiff.

You'll thank me for it.

Ok, I've never wanted to live out in the country but these pictures are making me reconsider that!

This just makes me want a garden even more. There is a house not too far from us...on the main road...that has a side garden. They harvested their corn a few weeks ago...and then moved all the stalks to the center...where they sit now...turning brown. Do you know why they did that???

And I'll have to remember to inhale next year ;-)

FYI-While I love sweet corn too...this isn't corn to eat. It's field corn. Definitely not yummy. But very pretty.

I actually was able to smell some corn this afternoon on the drive home from school...I never noticed it before but was looking for it today...you were right, it smells wonderful.

Sigh. Around here, with two months of no rain, the corn is all wheat colored and crunchy. Sigh again.

my dad is a grass seed farmer and I absolutely love the slightly dusty, dried grass smell that is the result after the harvester goes through.

Zhhhhhh, corn sex.....I love it! It is especially heady just before dusk when the air is dew damp and the smell just hangs closer to the ground. Hubby will drive me down country roads so I can get my fix....I'm glad to know I am not alone.

Those are greast pics! I don't know about the smell though.....maybe after I've taken some Benadryl...but then I would fall asleep and wouldn't know what I was smelling anyway. ;)

Isn't it amazing how you can smell it? I love that smell and also the smell of fresh cut grass. Too bad the grass doesn't like me very well. The manure smell, I can do without but welcome to the country. I would not move to a city for anything. They don't realize what they are missing living there.

Love your pics!!
