I'm officially a soccer mom

It's true. Somehow I've turned into a 32 year old, SUV-driving, bottled water packing, soccer mom.

I signed the kids up for the Little Kickers program at our local YMCA. They learn basic soccer skills and it's a good introduction to semi-organized sports (read: chaos.)

Both kids were SO excited all week about going to soccer. We bought new, manure-free tennis shoes. I packed snacks and bottled water. We made it to the field on time. And then Claire grabbed my leg, stuck her finger in her mouth, and hid.

Cole was a little timid for about 2 minutes, then he ran to the field, grabbed his soccer ball, and started practicing.

The coaches introduced all the kids and did their best to get Claire involved, but she was still busy doing this.

Meanwhile, Cole was doing stretches, dribbling, baby kicks, running, and loving every minute of it.
Doesn't he look like the leader of a little soccer gang?

There was also some grass-picking.
And ball handling.

And yes, even more of this.

I was so proud of Cole for going out and participating. He's not the most social child. I honestly expected him to be hiding behind me and Claire out kicking the ball. But that would have made sense. And leave it to kids to keep you guessing.

Aww, what a cute little soccer player, and a cute non-soccer player. Cole looks like he had a blast, maybe Claire will give it a try next time.

Claire is just wondering where the princess dresses and cakes are.
I'm glad Cole loved it. He looks so big and sporty in his slick pants!

Yep-you NEVER know how they will turn out-who will like what. It's a guessing game! Claire looked adorable anyway so who cares :)

Yay Cole! Our Noelle is on a team right now, and she's the cute straggler at the end that follows the pack but rarely gets close enough to the ball to kick it. (And the few times she was, she just stared at it.) We don't appear to have athletes at our house, but it sounds like you have at least one!

Cute! Isn't it amazing that they never do what we expect them to do? :)

Didn't you watch Oprah yesterday???
NO more water bottles!
You have to drink water from a canteen or something now and use ONLY metal straws.
Geesh.

Love the pictures :)

LOL you just never know what they're going to do. It looks like he is having a wonderful time...and it looks like she wishes she could let herself go and enjoy it too! Hopefully she'll let go and join in the fun!

They for sure keep us guessing.
I bet she'll come out of it the more that she sees Cole doing it & having fun.
Way to go soccer mom!!!

My poor Owen (6) was sooo upset that I signed him up for t-ball, till he got there...now he can't wait to go!

My five year old plays soccer and she scored two goals today. She won't quit talking about it. She thinks she's Mia Ham. The weird thing is, her name is Mia and the boy she says she will marry is Nathan Ham. Maybe she's on to something.

Congratulations on joining the Soccer Mom Fraternity...

Do you have the requisite Soccer Mom vehicle?? ;-> ;->

I used to be a Rugby Mum .. :-)

Love the photos ... Cole looks as though he is having fun and Claire looks so cute. She'll be out there in no time :-)

Congrats on being a soccer mom. It looks like Cole had a GREAT time.

Claire will come around. Do you think she is too young? I was thinking I'd wait awhile on Z....right now he would do the opposite of whatever anyone tells him to do anyway.....such a rebel!

We tried this last year with Zilla but he was mainly interested in running around in every direction except the one he was supposed to be going. I'm surprised that the coach even knew who he was LOL. The kids looked like they had a good time.
