What a Crock

Now that I will be home during the day, I would like to use my Crock Pot more often so that I can get supper prepared before the evening meltdown occurs. My problem...I have like 2 recipes for my Crock Pot and one of them is a frozen store-bought meal in a bag. You can see I need some help. So, here's your mission should you choose to accept it. I need recipes, people. Main course, easy, seafood-free recipes. PLEASE leave a Crock Pot recipe comment. Please. The future of my family depends on it. Well, that's a bit dramatic. But, it would be nice to cook them a meal once in awhile. I don't want my children to think hot dog is a food group. Thank you.

I heart my crockpot. Use it on average twice a week. I don't have any special recipes, but use it to cook roasts mostly. So, instead of recipes I have tips. Go buy some of those crock-pot liners. They're sold in the ziploc baggy aisle. They're a life saver. Also, when you cook a roast, resist putting water in with it. Just let the roast cook in it's own juices. Always put the fat side down and cook it AT LEAST 8 hours on low.

So then what do you DO with the roast? Here's what I do with roast about once a year...serve it with potatoes, onions, and carrots. Blah. I need ideas! I will go get the liners because that's one reason why I hate using the d*$& thing. Too messy!

I will second the crock pot liners. But I have never been thrilled with what I have done in the crockpot...so I didn't comment a while ago. But then on the homeschool boards that I read, this exact question came up! Here is a link for a bunch of yummy sounding recipes:

Hi Angie,
My favorite new-to-crockpotting recipe is to cook "the lazy way." Plop some frozen chicken or beef into the crock and cover with your favorite jarred sauce and cook on low all day long. Then serve over rice or pasta.
Sauces that work well: jarred pasta, jarred alfredo, bbq, any of the lawry's marinades, Italian salad dressing, teriyaki sauce, etc.
It really is quite easy.

I agree with Heather that you don't need to add much liquid to the crock unless you are trying to achieve a soup or stew.

you are more than welcome to email me at any time!

Do you have an email address I could send a recipe to? email me and I'll send you "Taco Soup!"

Ooooohhhh...the taco soup is so good! I'd forgotten all about that one. It's a great recipe.

Sorry...I meant to answer your question. I shred the roast and put it over slices of bread for open face sandwiches or in tortillas for shredded beef burritos. Shred the roast and you can do all sorts of things.

I have a few crock cookbooks, if you wanna gander at them.
I use mine mostly in winter to make soup. I also do a roast...eat it with the veg the first night, then the second we have beef/noodles.
I also like chicken breast and cream of mushroom with green beans over rice/noodles. I don't use mine a lot in the summer, but now that you mention it, maybe I should!

You will all be happy to know I borrowed a Crock Pot cookbook from Deb. I have browsed the Crock Pot recipes recommended to me. And...I purchased a roast, chicken breasts, and assorted ingredients to make some savory meals! Woo hoo! The only bummer is I forgot the liners. Oh well. I will let you know how meal #1 turns out tomorrow. Thanks for your ideas!
