Thursday Thirteen

Last week, I wrote thirteen things I miss about having a new baby. This week, I get back to reality. Here are thirteen things I do NOT miss about having a new baby.

1. The explosive poop that somehow manages to go up the back and into the legs of the sleeper

2. Sore, cracked, bleeding nipples

3. Smelling like sour milk

4. Colic

5. Getting up for feedings every 2-3 hours

6. That feeling when you FINALLY get the baby rocked to sleep, only to put her in the crib to have her instantly wake up, screaming

7. Always staying home to keep the baby away from germs

8. On the rare times you did leave the house; having to nurse in the bathroom, car, or dressing room

9. Those nights when you don't know what else to do, so you load the screaming kid into the car to drive around aimlessly with unwashed hair and no bra

10. Scraping dried biter biscuits and other assorted first foods off every surface of the kitchen

11. Teething

12. Seeing the baby gnawing frantically on her fist when you JUST nursed her-my nipples hurt just thinking about all of those marathon nursing sessions we had

13. Pumping-OMG that was the worst for me. I hated it. It was so unnatural and I never had much success with it. Combine that with the fact that 2 different people walked in on me at work while I was pumping...yeah, it didn't last long. After my principal walked in on me, I thought my milk would NEVER let down again.

It's a good thing they're cute because even though it seems like a never ending cycle of crying, poop, and more crying...it does get better and it IS worth it.
If you want to see what other people are posting about today...check out Thursday Thirteen!

Great list. These are all of the reasons that babys should be born to the young marrieds. There comes a time when you just get too old to do all of this stuff.
Have a great day.

I love OTHER people's newborns, but it was not my favorite part of motherhood. It's exhausting work.

I'm always glad to hear when other women acknowledge that having a newborn isn't all sunshine and roses. It makes me feel normal. He's been waaaay more fun as get gotten older.

And pumping? OH.MY.GOSH. I never knew my nipples could stretch out that far.

None of that stuff bothered me as much as the spoon feeding. I despised the spoon feeding thing. Makes me shudder to think about doing it with grandkids some day.

Exhausting 13, though!

Yes, I think God had babies grow so fast because of all these things you listed. Otherwise....we would all just have one child.

Still....I can look at Zander now and think how I miss him being a little baby....then I slap myself and move on. He is 20 months now and those 2 year molars coming in are NEVERENDING!!!!!

Love this list, but somehow it doesn't really discourage me from wanting just one more!

The cracked bleeding nipples are hands-down t.h.e worst part of the newborn deal. And it's like they're some big secret.

Honestly I think that is why when you finally get to hold that little baby in the hospital that you just fall so madly in love that anything and everything that they do you will overlook.
But great list it brings back so many memories that are long ago 5 years thank goodness.

I just remember thinking I could be a normal person again if I could just sleep for four hours straight.

Nice 13. It's so hard to remember all those bad things when you see a cute baby and that maternal instrinct kicks in. I've been feeling that feeling lately...but I just don't think we can for so many reasons.

Those pictures you included in the post were ADORABLE. Love the one of your son trying to uses the breast pump. I'm with you on that. i tried to pump but never got the hang of it. I was a nursing slave...

Girl, that last picture should of been a Wordless Wed post! That was too funny.

I'm so happy, I never had sore nipples and it is a good thing too since my baby was stuck there the first year of her life before she let go! Cause she wouldn't stop screaming other wise.

Ugh, the explosive poopy! I think that one was my least favorite. And always would happen at the worst times, too. (Heck, the first time my brother met my daughter she did that and got poop all over him. Scarred him for life, I think.)

The breast pump picture is hilarious! My husband was the one who got it working (when a friend was over), and the tried it out on himself. One of the funniest things I'd ever seen. Probably scarred his friend for life, too.

We must have a knack for that :)

How soon they forget...no one mentioned the episiotomy! And while we're on the subject, will someone please explain to why the poop of breastfed newborns has SEEDS in it?! EWWW

That last shot is my absolute FAVE! Priceless.
